About the Edition

Alexander Pentland, born about 1513, was a sheriff of Edinburgh County, and lived at Carrington, Scotland. He was married to Elspet (Elizabeth) Wilson. James Pentland (1798-1855) was born at Burnt-Island, and with his parents, James and Deborah Mitchell Pentland, came to Ulster about 1806. He came to Canada about 1822 with his brother, George and sisters, Alice, Elizabeth and Jane. They settled in Kingston, Ont. James married Catherine Boyd (d. 1834) in 1823. He married (2) Mrs. Anne Hamilton (1814-1888) in 1838. Family members live in Canada and United States.
